Foster, kinship, guardian, and adoptive parents came to Sacramento on March 29 to advocate for the needs of children and youth in foster care. Many legislators are newly elected, and caregivers shared their stories about the challenges and barriers that they face as parents of children in and from the foster care system. In addition, caregivers shared the need for AB 273 (Ramos), which will protect children by creating a more family-centered and child-focused process to locate, return, and stabilize children and youth who go missing while in the care, custody, and control of the child welfare system. We hope you can join us for another empowering Caregiver Day at the Capitol next Spring!

California Alliance of Caregivers is co-sponsoring SB 589 (Alvarado-Gil) with Children Now. SB 589 will establish a statewide Child Welfare Disaster Response Fund to ensure grants and resources are immediately available to disaster-impacted communities. This fund will mitigate the urgent needs of children and youth in foster care and their caregivers, including transportation, interim housing, and replacement of essential belongings. If you have a story to share regarding the need for this legislation, please email: info@cacaregivers.org.
