September is Kinship Care Month when relative are recognized for stepping up to care for their kin. California Alliance of Caregivers advocates for and supports all families caring for youth in and from foster care, and highlights issues and barriers that are unique to relative caregivers.
NEW RESOURCE AVAILABLE! We are excited to share a new resource available for foster, kinship, guardian, and adoptive parents: The Resource Parent Guide. California Alliance of Caregivers has worked with the California Department of Social Services since 2018 to create and publish a statewide Resource Family Handbook. This will be published soon, until then, the Resource Parent Guide highlights important information for caregivers.

Flexible Family Support Available for Resource Parents |

"Flexible Family Support" is available to youth and families for respite, extra-curricular activities, visitation with family, and more! You can ask your social worker how your county has chosen to support youth and families with this funding, and how you can access the support for your child in foster care. For more information, see All County Letter 23-02. See county allocations below (2 allocations).

We have one last call for support from our partner, the Children's Advocacy Institute: Good Afternoon Children’s Advocates,
I’m reaching out to urge you to write a letter to the Governor in support of AB 2906. This important bill would require counties to conserve Social Security survivors benefits received by a youth in foster care for that youth’s current and future needs, rather than using those benefits to pay for the cost of the child’s foster care placement. AB 2906 also creates notification requirements to increase the number of eligible foster youth linked to Social Security benefits upon their exit from care.
Here is a sample letter that you can personalize and submit to leg.unit@gov.ca.gov, with a copy to amy.ho@asm.ca.gov. Your support can make a significant difference in protecting these vital resources for foster youth.
